This trip is no vacation - what our delegates are dealing with

To start with, the weather - it's worse than what we have in Columbus, with freezing temps and rain. Then there's the mobs - at least 2 million people expected on Tuesday. It's exciting, but heightened security can dampen even the most exuberant spirits. Among a list of banned items, visitors can't bring backpacks, strollers, umbrellas, posters, animals or alcohol.

To quote the official inaugural web site: "Extra consideration should be taken when planning to bring infants, young children, the elderly, or anyone with a weakened immune system."

If our fearless correspondents have to "go" they will likely suffer in one of those port-o-lets you try to avoid at all costs. They won't even try to park in the city, but will likely park somewhere in Virginia or Maryland and bus on in (the Metro is expecting "Crush-level" crowds.) Cell phones are allowed, but will probably be about as effective as a brick.

Bricks, of course, will not be allowed, and security will be so strict, allowing extra time to pass the gauntlet is recommended - think Disney World, in northern Alaska, under Russian rule.
